Digging Deeper

When studying the Bible, there are a lot of ways you can go about it. Here are some simple ways that the group can use to study together.

Telling /Reading the Bible story / passages
Have someone read or tell the Bible story that everyone will study. Repeat it a couple of times and you may even have someone read it in another version.

Asking Simple Questions
To get some good discussion going, try asking some questions and everyone is invited to contribute!
Some good questions to ask are:
What did you like about the text? Why?
What didn't you like? Why?
What do you think this text tells us about God?
What do you think God is telling us as a group tonight?
What is God telling you to do before our next meeting?

You can make up your own questions if you like that you think are appropriate if you are facilitating!

Who/What/When/Where/How/Why?
Another way to get deeper into the text is to ask the group to answer
  • Who is speaking / involved?
  • What happened?
  • When did this happen?
  • Where did the story take place
  • How did it go / end / end up?
  • Why do you think it happened the way it did?
Everyone can participate of course -- and often study Bibles have maps and other helps to answer the tougher questions. If a question cannot be answered during the group, then the group members have a little homework for the next meeting!
